Sound Design

Sound Effects:

The most dramatic sound sequence in this show was of a submarine going underwater, springing a leak, and collapsing.

Mic Effect

A mic was used to create a reverb effect in one scene where a character is talking to themselves in an underground cave. The mic pack and element were rigged onto the costume piece they wore for the scene.

Projection Design

This projection design was one of my first, and was a team effort with Braden Larsen, Caroline Holden, and Phillip Schramm in addition to myself. I learned a lot of things the hard way, such as:

• It is much harder to see detail in a projected image than on a computer screen.
• The resolution of a projector is typically much lower than a computer screen, and making a computer downscale images can often slow down the processing speed.
• When using a green screen, make sure it is well-lit!
• If at all possible, program projections from a location where the stage is clearly visible.
• It is very easy for a projection design to quickly become incohesive, and it is important to decide on an artistic style early on in the process.
• Always pay attention to sightlines!
• Project content onto the audience sparingly. Having a projection in your eyes is akin to having a lighting instrument in your eyes.
• Don't procrastinate projection designs! They take a long time, and you will likely be expected to make major modifications during tech.
