The booth was wheeled around to dozens of locations across campus over a roughly three week period. Some of the locations can be seen in photos above

All of these images were crowdsourced from passers-by. Screenshots were taken when I came to move the booth to new locations.

Functionality

  • Leap Motion device detects hand movements of visitors
  • Leap motion connected to hidden Mac Mini running Processing software
  • Mac Mini connected to one screen inside booth and three on the outside via VGA splitters
  • Mac Mini connected to iPad using a computer-to-computer network and Reflection software
  • iPad detects touch input for on-screen slider

Hand movements created dots of varying size on screens, based on hand position in three dimensional space. Size of dots was determined by detected position in Z-space, AKA forward/back. Color of dots could be changed via the slider on the iPad. All screens showed the same image.

Creation Process

All software used: Leap Motion, Processing, Reflection, Photoshop, VectorWorks
All hardware used: Leap Motion, Mac Mini, iPad, VGA cables, VGA splitters, LCD Screens, Large-Format Printer

The entire booth was build out of wood, screws, and casters, with the help of the mentorship of Todd Edwards. Draftings of the project below:

Photoshop and a large printer were used to create the instructional images that were then glued onto the booth.
