Sound Design

Sound System:

6 total speakers:
- 2 speakers in the two corners of the space behind the audience, pointed into the corners and upward
- 2 speakers on the floor in the two corners behind the set, pointed into the corners
- 1 sub-woofer offstage
- 1 speaker in makeup room (behind audience seating), with the door (hidden behind curtain) separating the room from the audience propped open with a 2x4. Used to create the sound of a band playing across the river (behind the audience), with the sound echoing around the makeup room creating natural reverb.

Sound Effects:

One of the characters sets the stage for the audience and points out various elements of the world of the play at the start of the show, including mentioning the sound of a dog barking. Initially the sound is of a small yapping dog, which the character immediately expressed exasperation with - it is then replaced with a larger dog, further away.

There were also various sounds of birds, bees, crickets, and a river used and subtly faded for ambient soundscape throughout the show.

Music:

This is a trombone cover of the song "Mah Lindy Lou" performed by Joe Howard. The band across the river plays this song during the show. This particular song was necessary, but it needed to be an instrumental version so it could be believed that it was being played by a band in the world of the show. This trombone cover fit the bill nicely!

I liked the Joe Howard trombone album of covers that Lindy Lou was taken from so much that I used the entire album for preshow music, also played from "across the river" (aka using the dressing room speaker)
