Cell Phone Sounds
The show calls for a character's cell phone to play alert sounds while on stage. To accomplish this, we used an app called StageCaller which works using WiFi, OSC, and Dropbox.
There is also an MP3 player that plays a specific song (Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles), which was accomplished with speaker placement and EQ, making it much easier to do fades and levels and to crossfade to the house system.
Ambience
The show was set semi-outdoors, so various ambient sounds were used to highlight the time of day and provide a backdrop of nature.
Other Specific Sound Effects
Played from an offstage speaker
Played from a speaker near the phone
Played from a speaker in the back of the house (after a character runs through the house to go jump in the pond)
Preshow & Intermission Music
In the play, the characters dress up as characters from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and go to a costume party. We decided to use Disney covers for all of the preshow, intermission, and transition music. We aimed for movies and styles of music that would be within a generation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (1937). It was mentioned in the review:
The music that plays is an eclectic collection of Disney covers, most prominently including Louie Armstrong's version of "Whistle While You Work."
